Family Portrait Photography – Five top tips…

Family Portrait Photography

How to prepare for your Family Portrait Photography Session by Hayleigh Yerlett….

Preparing for your Family Portrait Photography Session can sometimes be a little bit daunting.

Here are five top tips for your Family Portrait Photography…

1. Will the children behave for the photographer?

Never worry about the children, remember we meet and greet many families during our portrait sessions, so we will have the necessary tricks up our sleeve to entertain your children during, before and after the session.

We are here to make the experience enjoyable for you and your children, so let us take the lead while you sit back and enjoy the moment.

2. What shall I take with me?

Most studios will provide a wide range of props both large and small to work with during your session.

However, when our clients visit the studio at Chic Portrait Photography, we suggest that you bring along any personal items that you feel would add a personal touch to your photos.

3. What should you wear?

The last thing you want during your portrait session is to blend in with the background.

I normally suggest that you wear something bright and colourful and depending on what backdrop I’m using in the studio (which I will inform you of beforehand) you should wear the opposite of that, for example, white backdrop, dark clothing. Black backdrop, light clothing.

4. How long will my portrait session take?

This depends on how old your children are and how many of you attend.

Working with very young children can sometimes take a bit longer to get good photos as they cannot take direction as well.

For example, if you have a newborn you will need a minimum of two hours.

If the group are older you could be in and out within an hour.

However, rest assured we will keep going until we are certain we are happy with what we have captured.

5. Is it worth all that effort?

Capturing a moment in time during our busy lives is hard to do, but taking time out of your daily routine means you will have something that is timeless and that you can treasure forever.PORTRAIT, Family, children, Newborn Photography
